Wash Out in Nha Trang

After a fitful night of sleep, involving me trying not to roll onto the wounds and Julia trying to avoid them, we awoke to a pretty sullen morning in Nha Trang.  The clouds were looking ominous, but they didn't do that for very long, choosing instead to just open up and dump a rather annoying drizzle on the seaside town.

We were due to head out to the islands that surround the town by boat and enjoy some time snorkelling, swimming and sunbathing.  Clearly the water based activities were not on my agenda and the sunbathing was right off the menu.  By the time we got to the port you could barely see half a mile out to sea and the islands looked like dull blobs on the horizon.

The boat itself was no 80ft super yacht of the rich and famous, but it was just large enough for us all to sit down and "enjoy" the slightly choppy ride out to the first bay where we were due to moor.  Between the rain and the spray from the waves, most of us were getting pretty damp and the mood in the boat was subdued.

Pulling up, we dropped anchor and the local coracle owners made some desultory attempts to sell us things or get us to go for "joy rides" in their glass bottomed boats.  Some of us went for a bit of snorkelling - others had massages and pedicures.  We played some scrabble and shared stories of past trips with Exodus and other touring companies.

All in all, as I said, it was a fairly dull day and nobody was beside themselves with grief when we began to head off home.  The afternoon was a much needed (and dry) rest in bed and we were both out like lights within minutes.

Dinner with some of the group was very tasty, though the rat that jumped through the window behind one of the girls at the table made us wonder whether any of its family had found its way onto the menu.

Tomorrow was a long day....100km....and with this weather it promised to be a very damp affair.  I was due to be on the bus all day...and as I went to bed I wondered which would be worse, 100km through the rain or 12 hours on a bus!
