Year of the Water Snake and new friends in Saigon

My new hair transplant and the Saigon Poseur
Well we said to ourselves that we would update you all on Cambodia then do a single entry for our time in Saigon, but last night was great and deserves a quick note and a special mention.

The night started slowly....a couple of drinks in the hotel and some research on the recommendations from the team here; in the end we settled on Chill Bar (Chill Bar Saigon) and boy were we glad of that - it was packed full of locals and that was exactly what we wanted.

Almost every one of those lights is a moped!
When we left, we weren't sure how late we would stay out.  Julia wasn't really "feeling it" and I was in "wait and see" mode.  That would all change (but then most of you who know us would never believe otherwise).
Moped Madness in Saigon

First up we went for a wander in the streets and played Frogger on the roads with the mopeds and cars.  The place is nuts, but somehow the drivers are so aware out here that you feel almost safe crossing the road.....as long as you don't stop, keep moving slowly and give them time to avoid you.

Did you know in Vietnam there is one moped for every 2 people!?  We've seen babies and families of 5 on them.

Central town was also packed with people, the Vietnamese love a photo and they were all out taking photos and posing.  We even had a surprise entry into one of our photos (see the bloke above) who looked very pleased with himself afterwards.

Duy, his sister Thuhoai, Lam and Quang the barman

We then headed over to Chill Bar at the AB Tower.....there was an entrance fee, but it was New Year and it had been recommended, so what the hell!

So glad to have gone, we met some lovely people in there and made some new friends with some locals.  There were some beautiful people, some mean looking people and some loony people, but everyone having a lot of fun.

The fireworks that Saigon put on at midnight were incredible - we've been privileged to have witnessed 2 of the best displays ever; one in Cambodia and now the one last night.

Quang the barman introduced me to a great new cocktail as well; the Mekong Floor....sounds so dirty!

Home at 3.30am and today is going to be a day of recovery :)

Cambodia Days 3 and 4 to come later!
